Costa Rica Surf & Yoga Retreats

2014 DATES:    18-25 January (FULL)
1-8 February (FULL)
15-22 March
12-19 April
LOCATION:        Santa Teresa, Costa Rica

Our Yoga and Surf retreats are held in the sleepy beach town of Santa Teresa, at the Southern most tip of the Nicoya Peninsula, where jungle hillsides meet an endless white sand paradise beach.

We use the word retreat lightly as this is a fun packed week full of new experiences, learning, exploring, relaxing and making new connections..  we want you to end your journey with us with sand between your toes, salt in your hair, a big smile on your face and feeling empowered with your surfing.

You will be surfing each day with our friendly and experienced Surf Sistas coaches who will help you to get the most out of your surf time whatever your ability level.

Daily Yoga sessions will help you prepare for and then stretch out after surfing and our boutique surf hotel accommodation is the perfect place to relax by the pool and soak up that gorgeous Costa Rican sun.

SURFING
Our Surf Sistas camp is located a few minutes walk from the waters edge at the stunning Playa Santa Teresa.  Whether we surf at our local break or make a short drive north or south, we will always find the best waves of the day for you and your ability level.

With a maximum of 10 girls on the retreat and our ratio of one instructor to 4 girls or less, you can be sure of plenty of one to one tuition with your coaches.

Beginner surfers will learn the basics of surfing, how to position yourself on the board, catch waves and pop up, and importantly how to stay safe in the water. By the end of the week we will be concentrating on your paddling, how to catch green waves, and turning.

Improvers will benefit from our 'White to Green' coaching, helping you to really take your surfing to the next level where you are gaining confidence in paddling out the back, consistently riding green waves, turning and trimming along the wave, turtle rolling or duck diving.  We will use video analysis where appropriate to help you to identify the key areas you need to work on.

Experienced surfers will benefit from an introduction to the breaks in the Santa Teresa area and coaching using video analysis to work on specific aspects of your surfing.

You will have the option to do 2 water sessions each day unless you would like to take some time off to relax in a hammock, explore or try out some different activities.   Bring your own surfboard or use one of ours for the week. If you know what kind of board you want to ride then let us know in advance and we will make sure we have the the right board for you when you arrive.

YOGA

Both beginner and improver Yogis will practice asanas to enhance your surfing, improve your balance and flexibility and stretch out tight muscles.  Our Yoga classes are held in our private yoga space, with the ocean and wildlife as our soundtrack, and occasionally at the beach.

TESTIMONIALS:
"I joined Surf Sistas in Costa Rica and had an amazing time! It was the perfect mixture of activity and relaxation all while set in beautiful Costa Rica. The surf instruction I received from Sam was the best I have ever had (have had lessons before this trip) and yoga with Nicole was wonderful as well, her vast knowledge of the human body and how to care for the aches that come from surfing was perfect!
The town of Santa Teresa is a small little town filled with other friendly surfers who have traveled there for its perfect waves. The endless amount of food options was great after a long day of surfing. The sunsets in Santa Teresa are the best I have seen yet!
I had sooo much fun during my week in Costa Rica. I met a great group of girls, stayed in a very nice and relaxing lodge, ate delicious food, zip lined through the rain forest, learned to surf, and more. Since Surf Sistas I have bought a board and have been surfing as much as I can, they got me hooked, and I plan on joining them on many other surf trips in the future! :-)"    Madeleine, California (Feb 2013)

  3. Looks like a lot of fun! For some reason, I've never thought of the combination of surfing and yoga. Now that I say them together, it sounds like a great way to spend a vacation. I need a vacation. I'm going crazy here in the office.

I was in Bali not too long ago.I got a lot of support from our surf coaches there for surf yoga retreat. I've come to understand that the reason yoga goes so well with surfing is that it enhances strength, flexibility, and balance—all of which are essential for raising your surfing game.
